Upload Your Files Faster With Multithreaded Uploads

With the release of Jumpshare Plus last week, we announced a whole list of new and exciting features for Plus users and we’ve received a lot of great feedback. One really sublime feature that we rolled out for all users (both Free and Plus users), is a new upload mechanism which supports multi-threaded uploads.

With multithreaded uploads, your files are broken down into multiple smaller chunks and then uploaded to our servers. Four simultaneous connections are built, which means 4x faster upload speed compared to before.

We put it to test by uploading a 100MB ZIP file using a 6Mbps upstream connection. You can see the time it took to upload on different file sharing services.

Upload time of different file sharing services

Next we uploaded a 100MB video file using the same 6 Mbps upstream connection.

Multithreading upload of Jumpshare

Of course, multi-threaded uploads isn’t all that you get with this new upload mechanism. If your internet connection drops while you’re uploading files, Jumpshare will pause uploading and will then automatically resume it once the connection is restored. You don’t have to start from scratch if your internet connection is unstable.

View AutoCAD Files Online For Free!

At Jumpshare, we want to make file sharing easy for people from all walks of life. So today we are announcing the support of AutoCAD output. This output is now available to both Plus and Free users.

AutoCAD is used by engineers, architects, city planners, 3D model designers, interior designers, and many others. You can now share your AutoCAD files with colleagues and friends to show them what you’ve made and gather quick feedback. As always, recipients do not have to sign up for a Jumpshare account to view or download the files. There’s absolutely no learning curve. We take care of everything!

Jumpshare AutoCAD Output

Our AutoCAD output comes in 3 background colors; blue, black, and white. By default, the blue background is shown but this can be changed from within the file viewer.

Introducing Jumpshare Plus

Jumpshare-Plus-banner-simple

Imagine if every file you share could be viewed online, if every desktop, smartphone and tablet could open the files irrespective of the platform they are running. No need to download the files, no need to install third-party apps to view them. Technology should do the work for you.

Two years ago we started developing Jumpshare with this simple mission. We have since come a long way. At Jumpshare, we’ve build a solution that makes it possible to view over 200 file formats online. This does away with all third-party apps built to help you view the files. Jumpshare is a single destination where you can share and view all types of files online – and in coming future – gather feedback and collaborate with people.

We started with a quick drag & drop web app in September 2012, moved to free user accounts in February 2013, made it mobile-friendly and introduced the Mac app in July 2013. Now a year later – after 0.5 million successful file conversions – we’re finally launching the much awaited Jumpshare Plus.

Jumpshare Plus offer users more storage, better features, unlimited file upload size, support for custom domain and early access to new formats, all for $10 $9.99 per month on a monthly plan or $9 $8.25 per month (paid as $108 $99 per year) on a yearly plan. And we’re just scratching the surface of what we can offer. There’s plenty more to come.

So what’s new in Jumpshare Plus? We review some of the new features below.

Schedule Share

Jumpshare Schedule Share

Imagine you want to share a document publicly on a specific day, or have designs sent to a client on the due date, or simply want to share files at a time when you know you won’t be able to go online. Schedule Share allows you to set a future date and time for sharing your files.

Not only can you schedule files to be sent by email but can also schedule to share them on Facebook and Twitter. Google+ and LinkedIn support is coming up next.

The shares are scheduled according to your timezone. We automatically detect and set a timezone for you but if you want to set a different one, you can change it from the Settings. A new Scheduled Shares tab is added where you can see the list of all shares you’ve scheduled. From this tab you can edit the shares you’ve scheduled or cancel them.

Password Protection

Jumpshare Plus Password Protection

Every file uploaded to Jumpshare has a 20 character long unique URL which is hard to guess, but for super sensitive file, you can add an extra layer of security by locking them with a password. Locked file can be shared on social media or on websites and forums and access can be restricted. There is no limitation on the password length and we support special characters to help you make passwords even more secure.

Self-Destruct

Jumpshare Plus Self-Destruct

Self-Destruct takes the security of your files up by another notch. In case protecting your files with a password was not enough, you can set your folder to self-destruct after x number of days. Once self-destructed, your folder (and all files inside it) will automatically be deleted.

You can choose to self-destruct your files if you’re running a limited time public campaign (24 hours, 48 hours, one week, one month, etc) and want the readers/users to access the files within the timeframe given.

If your job requires you to share large amounts of files every month, you can set the files to self-destruct after a few months to free up space in your account for newer files. If you want to give someone limited time access, you have the option to choose both the date and time when setting up the self-destruct.

Custom Domain

If you have a personal brand or small business, you can now use your own domain name to personalize file sharing and enforce your brand image.

The default Jumpshare URL looks like:

https://jumpshare.com/v/blahblahblah

With custom domain, the URL can be:

http://yourdomain.com/v/blahblahblah

Your users, followers, customers, or clients will see your brand name as part of the share URL.

And Much More

50GB storage, bigger uploads, priority support, and the ability to send files to 100 recipients in one go. And did we mention that Plus users get early access to new file formats? As we continue to expand the number of file formats we support for online viewing, Plus users will get the ability to view them online before Free users (in some cases 3-6 months earlier). The 100MB file size cap is no more; it’s just you and your files.

Okay, that’s about everything. Now go upgrade your account!

Introducing Filters, Settings Page, Flat User Interface And More

As we prepare to launch Jumpshare Plus, we’ve given our entire interface a quick overhaul, added Filters, a Settings page and improved document, presentation, and spreadsheet output.

Flat User Interface

my-uploads

Our interface is now flat and we’ve added some elements to make it cleaner and more elegant, e.g, the Select files button is now more prominent in the sidebar, and background colors have been changed. It’s the same great Jumpshare but more eye-catching. We’ve also added new notification style. Now two notifications can be seen if more than one actions is performed. The notifications no longer obstructs you from using any other option in the header.

Introducing Filters

files filters

When you have a large number of files uploaded to multiple folders/groups, it becomes increasingly hard to find a specific category of files. Let’s say you uploaded 5 documents and they are in five different folders with a different set of files. You now want to view all 5 documents, what will you do? The only way was to individually find the folders and access the documents one by one. As of today, you can filter the files by categories. Just click “All” drop down and select Documents to see the list of all recently uploaded documents. The main categories for the filter are All, Images, Videos, Documents, Spreadsheets, Presentations, Audios, Code, eBooks, and Other.

Settings Page

settings (1)

With a Settings pop-up box, our ability to list options were limited. With the Settings page we have the ability to provide as many options as possible. It’s now also easier to change settings because all sections are shown in one page. In the coming days, we’ll be adding more options to the Settings page to give our users greater control.

Tour for New Users

Jumpshare Web Tour

We do not follow the model of a traditional folder hierarchy. All folders/groups are listed in My Uploads page and each one of them have a different set of files inside them. We do not allow creating a folder within a folder. By doing away with traditional folder hierarchy, we make file sharing dead simple, fast, and easy. It also makes it quicker to scan the folders in My Uploads page to see which files are located where. For our new users who have trouble getting started, we’ve added a quick five step to help them understand how it works.

Better Document, Presentation, and Excel Output

While we continue to make big changes to the web app, we’ve not forgotten our core feature, which is the ability to view over 200 file formats online. We’ve made document, presentation, and excel output even better. Now documents with graphics heavy content and custom fonts will show up fine.

We hope that with these changes, sharing files will become a far better experience for our users. Please report any bugs that you may come across, so we can fix them. If you have any feature request, questions, or just a feedback, let us know in the comments below. Happy sharing!

New Email Template Goes Live, Get Notified When A Recipient Has Viewed Your Files

From the ground up, Jumpshare has been designed to make file sharing simple. Today, we’re releasing a brand new email template which will make it easier for recipients to access the files. The new interface now clearly shows what type of file has been shared, the message (if any) and a preview of the said file. If multiple files are shared, we show a preview similar to the folder panel UI you see in My Uploads page, allowing the recipient to see the preview of files shared.

Get Notified When Recipient Has Viewed Your Files

Starting today, when you share a file, you will get two email notifications; File(s) shared successfully and File(s) viewed by a recipient. We want to ensure that you’re always notified whenever an important file is accessed by a recipient successfully. If you don’t want to recieve such emails, you can always disable them from Notifications in Settings page.

We hope with these changes, it will make the file sharing experience better for our users. If there is any feature you would like to see, have a question or feedback, please drop your comments below. Happy sharing!

Jumpshare Mobile Site Launched, Share And View Over 200 File Types On The Go

We’re excited to announce the launch of our mobile site which now brings the ability to share and view over 200 file types on any smartphone, irrespective of the OS it’s running. The mobile site is part of our greater plan to ensure that files can be accessed anywhere, anytime, without any restrictions. We strongly believe that contents of files should be able to flow freely between users. We’re making the habit of downloading files and opening them with third party apps, history.

Files uploaded to Jumpshare can be viewed by those who have the link to the file/folder, no sign ups required. This opens up a lot of possibilities and breaks down barriers that restricted content sharing before.

To share files, click the arrow next to the file or folder and select the option between Copy Link and Share (via email). You can also choose to delete a file/folder. To send files, click Share, type the email address of the recipient, and tap Send. You can also write an optional message.

It’s our first release, we’re working hard to make the mobile site faster, better, and simple. If you come across any bugs, please report them to us so we can fix them. Right now, uploading from mobile is not supported but expect to see it soon. Sharing and viewing on the other hand works fine.

If there is any feedback, or feature that you would like to see in the mobile site, let us know in the comments below.

Introducing Jumpshare For Mac: Real-Time File Sharing From Your Desktop

Jumpshare mac menu bar app

We all spend a significant amount of time on our desktops working on various tasks. Until now there wasn’t a single all-in-one app to meet all our file sharing needs. Most users look to web services to do the task for them, some still use clunky old apps to share files from their desktop. Many apps that are available today are focused on a specific demographic, i.e, designers, photographers, etc. Today we’re launching Jumpshare for Mac, a real-time file sharing app for everyone.

Are you a programmer? Drag and drop your code on to the menu bar icon to share. Your recipient will be able to view it online.

Are you a writer? Drag and drop your book or document on to the menu bar icon to share. Your recipient will be able to read it online.

Are you a singer or podcaster? Drag and drop your song or podcast on to the menu bar icon to share. Your recipient will be able to listen to it online.

Are you a designer? Drag and drop your Photoshop file, vector, or font designs on to the menu bar icon or take screenshots to share them automatically. Again, recipients will be able to view them online.

With over 200 file formats supported for online viewing, the Jumpshare app makes file sharing a fast, beautiful and seamless experience for both sender and receiver.

Why now?

Launching the desktop app has been on our mind for over 2 years now, but making the best file viewer that supports the most number of file formats in the industry, has always been a higher priority. Now that we’ve spent years improving our backend to support over 200 file formats, it’s time we introduce the Jumpshare app for Mac.

How it works

Jumpshare Mac Share box

Simply drag and drop your files to the Jumpshare icon in the menu bar to create a folder (also called a group or share) that can be shared instantly and securely with the recipient via a link (automatically copied to clipboard), without having to wait for uploads to complete. Alternatively, you can also hold down the “Alt” key and drag and drop files to the menu bar icon to open a Share box from where you can email files to up to twenty recipients at once. The recipients can then immediately view and access the files without having to sign up for an account.

If you only have a single file to share, just drop it on to the Jumpshare icon in the menu bar to share instantly. The recipient will see the content of the file in a viewer. It’s a simple, fast, and effective way to share your files.

Apart from super fast, real-time file sharing, the app shows a thumbnail preview and views count for all files uploaded from the desktop. You can access and re-share the last five uploads. To share last uploaded files, hover the mouse over the file and you will see two options, ‘Copy link’ and ‘Share’, allowing you to copy the link to the file or folder, or email the file/folder, respectively. To share on social media, right-click any file and select Facebook or Twitter.

Jumpshare utilizes HTML5 to ensure that recipients on both desktop and mobile can view the content of the files in any browser, on any device, anywhere in the world.

With the launch of Jumpshare app for Mac OS X, we hope that sharing files will be easier and faster than ever before for you. As always, we look forward to receiving your feedback. Give it a try and leave a comment below to let us know what you think.

Brand New Audio, Video, And Presentation Player

video player Jumpshare

Today we’re releasing a brand new audio, video, and presentation player to offer a better experience for our users and recipients alike. The new players offer a cleaner look departing from the previous designs that were heavily based on gradients and moving towards flat design. In the new audio and video players, you will now find both play time and total time of the media files. You will also find that the audio volume control is now front and center, clearly visible, making it easier to turn it up and down.

The most noticeable change can be found in the presentation player where the seek bar has been replaced with next/previous and first/last slide buttons in order to make it less distracting and easier to control. The full screen mode has been improved to help you present slides easily on a large screen or a projector.

Along with these changes, we’ve also increased the output quality of images across all formats, so you will notice clearer and sharper images starting this week.
